Cuyahoga Falls is in need of a high school football coach following Sean Flaherty’s resignation after four seasons.
Flaherty, 37, compiled a record of 7-33 in charge of the Black Tigers during the past four seasons.
“It was a decision I struggled with, but I decided to submit my resignation,” Flaherty said. “I am very appreciative and grateful to Cuyahoga Falls for giving me the opportunity to coach football. I enjoyed working with great people and great kids during my four years as coach.”
Flaherty, a Stow High School and Walsh University graduate, came to Falls after serving as an assistant at Stow and Wadsworth.
APS athletic update
Joe Vassalotti, the Akron Public Schools athletic director, said that two coaches have been hired to lead teams at Kenmore-Garfield next season: Kemp Boyd and Courtney Waldsmith.
“Kemp will be the head football coach at Kenmore-Garfield,” Vassalotti said. “He has been board approved and is good to go.
“Kemp’s strength is his ability to build relationships. It is a huge challenge with that job to bring those two communities together. The team will be made up of two football teams from last year. He has them working out some days at Garfield together and some days at Kenmore together to get used to one another. He is making great strides already.”
